David Oscar Calls for an End to ‘Galamsey’ in Latest Travel Diaries Episode
Ghanaian musician and actor David Oscar Dogbe has urged Ghanaians to shun illegal mining (Galamasey), which is destroying the environment.
He made the call in the latest episode of his travel diaries, as he toured Speck Alm in Bayerischzell (Bayern), Germany.
In this episode, David Oscar was amazed by the beauty of the Bavarian countryside and the cleanliness of the environment.
He contrasted this with the situation in Ghana, where illegal mining has polluted rivers and streams, destroyed forests, and displaced communities.
He however spared some time to ‘dig into’ some grilled beef ribs, potato chips and salad, a delicacy in the countryside town, Speck Alm before hitting the road to explore the beautiful town.
"I'm here in Bayerischzell, Germany, and I'm so amazed by the beauty of this place. The air is clean, the water is clean, cattle are grazing and the environment is pristine. It's a stark contrast to what I see back home in Ghana, where illegal mining is destroying our environment," David Oscar said.
He urged Ghanaians to take a cue from the magnificence of Speck Alm in Bayerischzell and make conscious effort to preserve the natural environment.
David Oscar is not the only Ghanaian celebrity who has spoken out against illegal mining.
In recent years, there has been a growing movement to raise awareness of the problem.
Despite government’s efforts to address the problem of illegal mining, the problem has persisted.
David Oscar's call to shun illegal mining is an important one as it follows campaigns launched by the media and other sectors of the country.
