Bugri Naabu admission in leaked IGP tape is out of shame – Maurice Ampaw

Private legal practitioner and Founder of Legal Advocacy Foundation Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has said Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu admitted to having recorded the leak purported to be plotting the sack of the Inspector General of Police(IGP)  out of shame.

“Bugri Naabu appeared before the commission in anger, because he feels that the tape was for the president alone but was leaked so he has come under criticism that he has betrayed his own friends. So he appeared before the committee with anger admitting that he had done it. He admitted it in shame”. Lawyer Maurice told Kumasi-based Angel FM in an interview on Monday, September 4, 2023.

To him, Chief Bugri Naabu appeared before the committee just to justify his reasons for recording their conversation at all costs and nothing else.

On the other hand, Lawyer Ampaw hinted that the commissioners who also appeared before the committee also decided to spill everything out because they felt betrayed by a ‘good friend’.

When Chief Bugri Naabu appeared before the Parliamentary Committee set up to probe the tape he admitted that he hired someone to record the conversation on his behalf.

He noted that the tape was recorded to be given to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The special committee was set up by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, following a complaint by the Minority.

The Speaker tasked the committee to investigate the authenticity of the leaked audio and also to make recommendations for reforms where necessary and make such other recommendations and consequential orders as the committee may deem appropriate.

The audio recording captures the voices of some top officials said to be with the Ghana Police Service and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) discussing the IGP.

They are heard questioning the impartiality of the IGP, claiming he has the support of former President John Dramani Mahama, and so scheming to ensure the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
