Jurgen Klopp hails impact of Liverpool summer signing
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he was impressed by Dominik Szoboszlai from the “first minute” he started to training with Liverpool.
Liverpool forked out £60m to sign the Hungary international at the start of the summer transfer window and, after strong showings in pre-season, the midfielder has quickly become one of the most talked about players in the Premier League thanks to a number of eye-catching performances.
One such performance came on Wednesday night when Szoboszlai came off of the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup – cannoning home a brilliant goal to make it 2-1 in the 70th minute.
Speaking after the win to the press, Klopp was asked about the goal Szoboszlai scored and how the new signing has quickly adapted to life in the Premier League.
“I don’t have to tell him to shoot, he knows that better than me,” Klopp laughed.
“He has a pretty good skill. The next [shot] he had which was slightly over was another grenade as well. It was a super goal.
“Since the first minute of training it was pretty impressive. That’s how it is. He’s a top bloke, a top guy and it’s easy to step into the team and the dressing room and stuff like this. He’s a very naturally confident boy and that helps but it’s super hard work as well and that’s what you see today.”
Szoboszlai himself was also asked by his new club’s official website about his stunning start to life at Anfield.
“I’m just doing my things, working hard and always ready to fight for the team, for the fans, for myself,” he said. “And as I get many chances, I want to give back.”
The midfielder and Liverpool will be back in Premier League action this weekend when they face off against high-flying Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening. Both teams head into the game with an unbeaten record in the league this season, with the Reds two points clear of Spurs thanks to one less draw and one more win.
