NDC Is Helping Kufuor Become Shadow President - Moshake
A former Executive of the Tema East constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expressing lament that his party’s election of former President John Mahama is a move that serves the interest of a leading member of their arch opponents.
According to Stephen Ashitey Adjei, alias Moshake, through John Mahama, former president John Agyekum Kufuor is now working out a grand and selfish scheme to become shadow president, even while in opposition.
“Former President Kufuor is the tactician behind John Mahama’s campaign and his motivation is simple- get John Mahama elected as president so that I can be shadow president,” wrote Mr. Ashitey Adjei, who is popularly called Moshake.
According to him, Kufuor whom he said is Mahama’s political godfather has become particularly intense with his scheming for Mahama because he has lost control that he used to have in the NPP through the Ashanti bloc.
“The rejection of Alan Kyerematen by NPP delegates was also, in reality, a rejection of Kufuor’s project to become shadow president through Alan Kyerematen. But the NPP was just one of two places where Kufuor had puppet master control. Now that the NPP campaign has tanked, the full attention is on the project to have his second godson, John Mahama elected as president.”
According to Moshake, “the NDC only played into the hands of Kufuor when they elected John Mahama as flagbearer.”
This is not the first time Moshake has raised the issue of former president Kufuor’s alleged controlling influence on former President John Mahama.
According to Moshake, Mahama is beholden to Kufuor through family ties between Mahama’s step mother and Kufuor.
He reveals that that relationship is the reason why late former President Rawlings became angry with Mahama and remained angry until his death.
“One time, when Mahama was president, he had invited Kufuor to a meeting with him in his house for advice. Unfortunately, at the same time, former president Rawlings had also gone to Mahama’s house to confer with him and because of Kufuor, Mahama made Rawlings wait for him throughout the day and he did not go out. This annoyed Rawlings and Rawlings had to leave in anger.”
Moshake explains that the reason why Kufuor had maintained a tight leash on Mahama was due to fear that Rawlings would influence Mahama to jail him and his appointees who had been perceived to be corrupt when Kufuor was president.
“Kufuor was the reason that Mahama did not prosecute a single former appointee of Kufuor,” Moshake wrote.
According to him, Kufuor was also the reason that John Mahama made many mistakes when he was president.
“It is Kufuor who advised Mahama to say he is a dead goat, and also stop payment of allowances to nursing and teacher trainees.”
Meanwhile, Kufuor’s control of NDC through John Mahama was for a long time, just one aspect of his sphere of influence. Kufuor was also seeking to have control over the NPP through Alan Kyerematen. However that project failed when the NPP rejected Alan’s candidature.
