Yaw Sarpong’s brother reveals why ailing musician is being kept at a church instead of hospital

A brother of Yaw Sarpong has revealed the reason behind the decision to keep the ailing gospel musician at a church instead of a medical facility.

According to Mr. Afreh, his brother, who had suffered a brain injury, was scheduled to undergo surgery while admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Speaking on Oyerepa FM’s Oyerepa Afutuo program, the elder brother of the gospel veteran said doctors put his chances of survival and recovery in the balance and asked him to sign for the surgery to be done.

However, upon consulting his brother, Yaw declined to give his consent for the surgery to proceed.

“The doctors called me to come and sign some documents because he had to undergo surgery in his throat region. The condition was that he could either survive or die. I finished the documentation and asked Yaw what he thought of it, and he told me he would not do it. I also informed the doctors that I cannot go ahead and sign if my brother does not want to consent. So, I did not sign the document,” Mr. Afreh said.

He added that following the decision against surgery, doctors advised that his brother be discharged. He mentioned that the Founder and leader of the New Jerusalem Chapel, Bishop John Yaw Adu, came to the hospital to assure them of Yaw Sarpong’s healing if he was handed over to his care.

According to him, the assurance by Bishop J. Y. Adu and his previous history of healing Yaw Sarpong in the past resulted in the musician being transferred to his church for healing.

“They said if that’s the case, we should come and take him away. I was there in the evening when I saw one of the band boys in the company of Bishop J. Y. Adu; he was at the Special Ward, and when he came, he checked on Yaw by raising his legs, touching him in various places. Bishop Adu then told me that he would heal him by the power of God, so I shouldn’t be worried about having him discharged. I had him discharged and sent to J. Y. Adu’s church,” he stated.

The Friday, June 21, 2024, edition of Oyerepa FM’s Oyerepa Afutuo was a full-blown exposé as the marriage and health issues of renowned gospel musician Yaw Sarpong took center stage on the show.

Yaw Sarpong’s wife, Maame Penamang, had reported that her husband’s family and associate, Maame Tiwaa, were denying her children and herself access to an ailing Yaw Sarpong, who has been at a church for several months.

But according to Mr. Affreh, Penamang had refused to take care of her husband despite a personal appeal from him.

Despite Maame Tiwaa denying having any sexual relationship with Yaw Sarpong, Mr. Afreh affirmed his personal interest in ensuring that his brother marries his backing vocalist, who has been very helpful in his time of need, if he fully recovers.
