Akufo-Addo pays last respect to Appiah-Menka
President Akufo-Addo and other top state officials mainly from the ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, joined the family of the late Akenten Appiah-Menka for his burial and funeral rites in Kumasi on Thursday.
The late NPP stalwart and business mogul’s funeral is taking place at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) in Kumasi.
The family of the deceased indicated that his body would be conveyed to his home town, Aboabugya for burial.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, who read a tribute on behalf of the state, described the late politician as a patriotic citizen who served the nation with “honesty and integrity.”
Also present at the late politician’s funeral were Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former president John Akyekum Kufuor, Senoir Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo and a host of others.
Mr Appiah-Menka, a founding father of the governing NPP, died Tuesday, on the 13th of February 2018 at 84.
He served as a Minister of State in the Second Republic.
The private legal practitioner and businessman is also known for producing the popular Appino soap.
He was a member of the Constitution Review Commission which was established by late President Mills’ administration.
He left behind a wife and 13 children.
