Following the dismissal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, EC, Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George, has described President Akufo-Addo as a despot who seeks the demise of the nation.
Commenting on Madam Charlotte Osei’s removal from office on his twitter handle, the legislator urged the citizenry “to rise in righteous rage and resist the despot who seeks the demise of the republic”.
President Akufo-Addo on Thursday removed Mrs Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Opoku Amankwaa from office.
This comes after a committee set up by the Chief Justice, Justice Sophia Akuffo, pursuant to Article 146(4) of the Constitution, to investigate separate complaints brought against the three persons by Ghanaian citizens, recommended their removal from office.
The Committee recommended their removal on the basis of stated misbehavior and incompetence, pursuant to Article 146 (1) of the Constitution.
As a result, the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, condemned the president’s decision and warned of staging a massive demonstration if Madam Osei is not reinstated.
The party described the allegations level against her as “politically motivated”, adding that, it is part of a well thought out plan by the governing New Patriotic Party ,NPP, to rig the 2020 elections.
