Akufo-Addo’s gov’t worst in Ghana’s history – Otabil

Rev. Dr. Mensah Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, has described the Akufo-Addo led-administration as the worst government in Ghana’s history.

According to him, the dwindling economic fortunes of the nation, has left the masses reeling in abject poverty.

The respected preacher, according to ghananewsonline.com, said these while delivering a sermon last Sunday in Accra.

“Very few employers are paying salaries as and when it’s due but salaries paid them cannot take them through the month,” he added.

In the opinion of Dr Mensah Otabil, the current state of affairs is “unprecedented” under the fourth republic, adding that the situation was better under the regimes of Mr Rawlings, Mr Kufuor and Mr Mahama.

“I lived under Rawlings, Kufuor and Mahama and I can tell you that current hardship under this administration is extraordinary,” he told the congregation.

The view of Dr Mensah Otabil on the economic sector has previously attracted a barrage of criticisms and name calling from government officials.

In 2014, he likened Ghana to a sinking ship, which needs a “decisive captain,” rather than an “overconfident” one, to steer the rudder out of the midst of “icebergs” to safety.

“Our ship is going down and we can’t pretend it’s a party,” he told the gathering at the ‘Festival of Ideas’ programme in Accra at the time.

His description of the economy attracted strong condemnation from government officials including then Communications Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, who described Dr. Otabil’s statements as “unfortunate.”
