“Amount I spent as MP on Akwatia hernia surgeries alone can buy 2 pickup”

Outspoken legal team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Baba Jamal has quantified the total cost of hernias he sponsored to be operated on for his constituents which he calculates could buy two brand new pickup trucks.

He revealed that if put together, they can fill the buckets of two double cabin pick-up vehicles indicating that a colleague who claimed he did only 120 thinking he has done much, actually did nothing comparing to his.

Commenting on the challenges lawmakers go through in catering for the unending needs of their constituents on Accra-based Okay Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the former Akwatia lawmaker observed that it is not easy to be an MP.

“If a colleague who is a medical doctor operated on 120 hernias he has done nothing. Kwame before National Health Insurance come on, you were supposed to pay cash for hernia operations. You were required to pay eighty cedis. The number hernias I have operated on as Deputy General Secretary and MP if we are conveying them on a pick-up we need like two”, he revealed.

According to him, it is the system that makes it so underscoring the need for patience on the part of politicians as failure to properly deal with such dicey demands can lead to the loss of an election.

“That is the system we find ourselves and if you are not careful and treat issues with caution, you could end up losing an election. We will continue to help because we see it as the service to the lord. The citizenry should not complain when MPs are paid huge sums of money because it is the same amount used in catering for their needs”, he stressed.
