COP Frank Adu-Poku has brushed aside claims by beleaguered investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, that he handed him an amount of $75,000 to frustrate the trial of some suspected gold fraudsters in 2009.
Speaking on Adom FM on Thursday, the retired police officer said, he never received such amount of money from Anas, adding that, “Anas will be in a position to explain it himself”.
Anas in a video released by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong dubbed, ‘Who Watches the Watchman’, screened on Wednesday is heard in a conversation with a state prosecutor alleging he gave the former CID boss, DCOP Adu-Poku, $75,000.
“I have never received any money from Anas. I worked as a police officer for 30 years and I have an unblemished record so Anas cannot use seconds to destroy it.
“I’m sure by the end of the day Anas will come out to clear me. I’m innocent”, he stressed.
Pressed on whether he knows the investigative journalist, DCOP Adu-Poku declined to comment, except to say, “I am contacting my lawyers.”
Before the premiere, Mr Agyapong in a brief interaction with the media said “for my film, I have pieced together several evidences from persons who have encountered a different Anas over the years.”
