Anlo Trd’al Council Denies Gbeho & Konadu’s Apology To Akufo-Addo -Over Rawlings’ Funeral Confusion

The Anlo Traditional Council, has clarified that Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, is not their spokesperson as they rubbished a publication suggesting that they have issued an apology to President Akufo-Addo, over confusion during the funeral of late President Jerry John Rawlings.

On Friday, February 19, 2021, a report on myjoyonline.com with the headline ‘Funeral Planning Committee apologises to Akufo-Addo over confusion during Rawlings’ funeral’ sourced the former Ambassador to the United Nations to have rendered the apology to the President on behalf of the family.

Subsequently, a statement signed by MrKobinaAndohAmoakwa, Communications Director at the Office of former President Rawlings, on behalf of the Funeral Planning Committee, noted that the reportage is false.

According to the statement, Ambassador James Victor Gbeho’s visit to the President on Thursday, February 18, 2021, was not on behalf of the Anlo Traditional Council and hence the reporter got it wrong.

“MrGbeho did not attend the meeting as a member of the Anlo Traditional Council, never apologised on behalf of the Council and it is unfortunate that the reporter who posted the report failed to recognise the true constitution of the delegation and the actual references made at the said meeting,” part of the statement issued by MrKobinaAndohAmoakwa shared.

Having taken notice of the report on Myjoyonline, the Anlo Traditional Council, has also issued a statement informing the general public that Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, is not their spokesperson.

“We would like to inform the general public that Amb. James Victor Gbeho is neither a member of the Anlo Traditional Council nor is he a spokesperson for the Traditional Council,” part of a press release from the Anlo Council signed by TogbiAgbesiAwusu II, reads.

The release adds, “We advise Joy News to be very circumspect in its reporting and be consistent with its banner headlines or verify individuals affiliations with organisations to avoid future embarrassment to itself, individuals, or organisations.”

Meanwhile, the Council has charged Myjoyonline to make the necessary correction and disseminate it as widely as it had carried the news item of February 19, 2020.

PRESS RELEASE:

The Anlo Traditional Council’s attention has been drawn to a headline trending on Myjoyonline.com and social media purporting to report that “The Anlo Traditional Council apologises to Akufo-Addo over confusion during Rawlings’ funeral”.

The story carried the picture of H. E. President AddoDanquaAkufoAddo and Amb. James Victor Gbeho and reportedly mentioned the latter as representing the family and carried the news item as apology on behalf of the late President Rawlings family.

However, the headline mentioned him as representing the Anlo Traditional Council. We would like to inform the general public that Amb. James Victor Gbeho is neither a member of the Anlo Traditional Council nor is he a spokesperson for the Traditional Council.

We advise Joy News to be very circumspect in its reporting and be consistent with its banner headlines or verify individuals affiliations with organisations to avoid future embarrassment to itself, individuals, or organisations. We hope the news organization will make the necessary correction and disseminate it as widely as it had carried the news item of February 19th 2020.
