Head coach of the Black Stars, Kwesi Appiah has given the clearest indication that Asamoah Gyan remains national team captain despite failing to include him in Ghana’s squad to play Kenya.
Kwesi Appiah has named an 18-man squad to face Kenya in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.
However, Asamoah Gyan and the Ayew brothers have been dropped ahead of the of the fixture.
After the squad was announced, it has emerged that Inter Milan midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoah has been handed the captain’s armband.
“We have no new captain. Asamoah Gyan remains the captain of the Black Stars. Until we announce that we have appointed a new captain, it’s unnecessary for people to speculate that we have a new captain,” he said.
“This captaincy issue keeps coming out and brings troubles in the team. We want to have our peace.
“Ghanaians should support the team and stop bringing up issues that do not exist,” he added.
Ghana will play Kenya in Nairobi on 8th September, 2018.
