Asante Kotoko goalie urges Normalization Committee to improve local players salary
Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Felix Annan has called on the Normalization Committee to help improve the standard of living of local players to make them stay longer in the local scene.
According to the promising shot-stopper, lack of motivation in the country’s topflight amongst many clubs push great talents to leave the country to much smaller clubs since their families look up to them.
However, the 25-year-old believes if there is going to be better financial benefits for local premier league players, they will stay and play over a long period of time like some players do elsewhere in the world.
“I speak to a lot of my colleagues and I know it is not easy playing in our local league. Our families and friends depend on us so if we are not getting the right financial benefits, we leave to play smaller clubs just to make money to sustain our selves and family”, he toldAsempa FM.
Comparing remuneration of players who play in the Championship in Europe to the local players, the former WAFA shot stopper bemoaned the difference and called on government and Corporate Ghana to support since the league is a product for the nation.
“The name of our league even suggests it is for Ghana so we plead with government. Corporate Ghana together with the Normalization Committee should to come to our aid and help improve our finances”, he added.
Felix Annan was part of the local Black Stars team that won the maiden edition of the WAFU Zone B tournament hosted in Ghana in September 2017.
