Ashanti Region police seize arms, ammunition from robbers

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has retrieved a cache of weapons from a robbery scene at Manso Ayirebikrom in the Ashanti Region.

A team led by DCOP Kwasi Mensah Duku reportedly retrieved four AK47, one G3, one pump action, one SMG with eighty-eight (88) AK ammunition and one hundred and thirty-nine (139) G3 ammunitions in a bush at Dome Beposo near Manso Nkwanta.

Two of the AK47s are believed to be those snatched from Corporal Eric Nsiah and Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku in a recent robbery between Manso Ayirebikrom and Manso Nkwanta.


Not long ago, a gang of armed robbers ambushed a sprinter bus with registration number GC 644-15 which was travelling from Manso Kumpeses to Manso Nkwata.

Aboard the bus were two policemen Corporal Eric Nsiah and Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku of the Ashanti Regional Special Weapon And Tactics [SWAT] unit armed with 2 Ak 47 rifles with 30 rounds of ammunition each.

The robbery took place between Manso Ayirebikrom and Manso Nkwanta where eight masked men dressed in military imitation uniforms, all wielding AK47 rifles attacked them.

There was an exchange of gunshots between the officers aboard and the robbers which led to the injury of the driver and a few other passengers.

The officers of the Ghana Police Service were overpowered and their rifles snatched.
Lance Corporal Daniel Tieku sustained a serious gunshot wound in the process and was rushed to St Martin’s Hospital at Agroyesum but died later on admission.
