Atsu to replace injured Amiron in Newcastle matches?
Ghanaian winger, Christian Atsu, could be handed a starting role in the rest of Newcastle United’s, matches following an injury to Miguel Amiron.
The 27-year-old Ghanaian has seen very limited first-team action since the 25-year-old came to the St James’ Park this season with manager, Rafael Benitez, preferring the Paraguayan for the left wing role to Atsu.
However, injury to the former Atlanta United attacking midfielder seems to be a blessing in disguise for Atsu who could be called to fill in that gap.
The 25-year-old, Amiron, sustained a hamstring injury and was substituted during last Saturday’s English Premier League match against Southampton.
In the 64th minute, Almirón limped off the pitch after a non-contact injury which turned out to be a hamstring. He received a standing ovation while walking off the pitch for his massive contribution to his side despite not scoring a goal.
The injury has given the manager no option than to fall back on Atsu to take up that same role he lost to the former Major League Soccer (MLS) player.
Atsu, a former Chelsea player is expected to seize this opportunity and to make a meaningful impact just as the injured Almiron did by assisting Ayoze Perez and Salomon Randon to bang in the goals.
