Blame Nigeria snub on poor international identity – Zapp Mallet to musicians

Ace Ghanaian music producer, Zapp Mallet, has waded into the debate on poor reception of Ghanaian musicians in Nigeria.

Menzgold, Zylofon Media launch took place on Friday 24th August, 2018 to formally open the Nigeria offices but musicians who performed at the event were disappointed by the reception from Nigerian folks.

Ghana’s most popular dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were expecting a rousing welcomed but the crowds cheered sparingly to their performances.

The issue has sparked controversy in the music industry in Ghana as many are wondering if Nigerian folks did not know them or were simply not enthused to see them.

But reacting to the issue, the ace sound engineer explained that, he’s not surprised Ghanaian artistes were snubbed: “… let me tell you something; even if we go and perform in Togo, Macedonia, Croatia we shall still experience the same bad reception because the music industry is in identity crises…Yes, we don’t have an identity”

“If we think we want to do dancehall, we have to do it in our own special way that would even beat what the Jamaicans are doing because we can’t compete with them.’

“The only way to take the rivalry between us and the Nigerians seriously is to step up our game– from production to marketing,” he said.
