Business booms for umbrella sellers in Kumasi
Umbrella sellers at Kejetia in the Kumasi Metropolis have recorded high sales in business during this year’s rainy season.
They said the recent downpours of the rains have become a blessing to them, as compared to other traders, who even buy umbrellas to protect themselves.
Speaking to Otec News reporters’ Acheampong Fremah Nadia and Adu Gyamfi Priscilla, one umbrella retailer, Mr. Ernest, revealed how the season has helped him to generate a lot of income.
According to him, he can sell over 16 boxes of umbrellas in a day and make over GHc500 as a profit for the day, as compared to previous months where he had to sell at about one box a day.
“Before the rains, I find it very difficult to sell even one box a day. Sometimes they won’t buy some at all. Now that t is raining, people are buying the umbrellas so I make a lot of profit. Sometimes I get Ghc500 and sometimes too I get Ghc700. I can sell 15 to 20 boxes a day.”
“Most people who travel to various destination sometimes get caught in the rain and quickly purchase umbrellas and raincoats in other to avoid being drenched in the rain. Demand for umbrellas have increased and am even running out of stock.
Other umbrella retailers who were spoken to also share the same thought that indeed business was booming because of the rains, and had wanted “to rain all year,” theyjoyously laughed.
