CAF CC: Akonnor calls on media to halt harsh criticism on Kotoko players
Coach CK Akunnor has called on the media to tone down on his players with harsh criticisms.
The Porcupine Warriors recorded a 3:0 win over the Nkana FC on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Striker Abdul Fatawu Safiu slotted in a beautiful free kick to the near post which beat goalkeeper Allan Chibwe to put Kotoko in front.
Emmanuel Gyamfi connected home a rebound after Daniel Darkwah’s powerful cross from the left came off the upright and back into play to double the lead in the 24th minute.
Two minutes later, Martin Antwi powerfully struck a free-kick from the right flank with his left foot, which flew over the goalkeeper into the net.
But according to the former Ashgold gaffer, his players are mostly affected by the harsh criticism vented on them insisting some of the criticism were personal and questioned how some people see the game.
“It is worrying how some people see the game. I am not worried about the criticisms but if it gets personal, then its a problem.
“Sometimes it gets too harsh on the players and this is about the difficult moment I have had in my career trying to psyche up the players for this game”, he told the media after their 3-0 win over Nkana.
“Sometimes we go through a lot before games. The players listen and it affects them. The players need their support, not harsh criticism,” he added.
Asante Kotoko are now second on the table with six points from four games and will host Al Hilal on Sunday.
