Chaos as soldiers, police clash in Tamale
Soldiers on Wednesday afternoon clashed with police officers in Tamale in the Northern Region, after a soldier was arrested by the police for allegedly beating his wife.
Report suggests the police after apprehending the military officer allegedly subjected him to severe beatings, irritating the soldiers who took the law in their own hands to respond in equal measure.
In the process, the soldiers swooped on any uniformed police officer they found, forcing civilians to flee to safety in their homes.
An eyewitness, who gave his name as Mohammed Sani, told reporters that several police officers are nursing head injuries from the series of attacks.
The angry police officers have retreated and are reportedly planning to launch their own reprisal, asempanews.com has gathered.
This is the second clash between the two security agencies.
In March this year, there was a clash between the two security teams. The IGP and the Regional Security Council set up a committee to probe the incident but its findings are yet to be released.
The police and military command in the Northern region are currently meeting over the latest outbreak of violence.
