Costa Rica 2022: Akufo-Addo prepares special package for Black Princesses

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that President Akufo-Addo has prepared a special package for the national female Under 20 football team, the Black Princesses, for qualifying to the 2022 FIFA Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The Black Princesses’ qualification marks the team’s sixth successive appearance at the World Cup, a feat which is matched only by the Black Starlets, who also played in six successive Under 17 FIFA World Cups between 1989 in Scotland and 1999 in New Zealand.

Dr Bawumia congratulated the team for its qualification and also urged the players to go all out and make an impact at the World Cup.

He also assured them of government’s continuous support, especially towards their preparations for the World Cup.

Dr Bawumia told the team this when they paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, 6 April 2022.

The tournament, which was originally planned for 2020 and intended to have Panama as co-hosts, had to be postponed due to the COVID pandemic. Costa Rica were then named sole hosts of this rescheduled global showpiece, which will run from 10 to 28 August 2022.
