COVID 19: Businesses in fumigated areas shut down
With the expected fumigation of the 137 markets in Accra today, several business including banks and telecommunication companies with branches in theses respective areas have issued notices, largely text messages, indicating their closure.
This means customers will have to transact business at their nearest branches.
The situation means there will be somehow huge traffic at the other branches that will be in operation.
But the banks especially have asked their customers to use their electronic channels to undertake transactions.
For instance, Stanbic Bank via E-communication said: “Please note that our Tudu, Makola, Madina, Graphic Road, Ashiaman and Tema Community 1 branches will be closed on Monday, March 23. They are in the zones to be fumigated, visit nearby Stanbic branches for your in-branch services. Our digital channels also remain hand. #StaySafe.
MTN also said “Dear Valued Customer, due to the planned fumigation exercise being carried out by the AMA, the following MTN branches will be closed on Monday 23 March 2020.
“They are Tudu, Accra Central, Madina, Madina Social Welfare, Ashaiman, Tema Community 1, Tema Community 1 and Ada.”
The shut down of the markets which is having rippling effects on businesses operating in these areas is expected to have an implication on the Gross Domestic Product.
