Dasana family wins Bimbilla chieftaincy dispute
The Dasana Andani family has been declared as the rightful rulers of Bimbilla following a prolonged dispute which has run for over 15 years.
The Supreme Court defined the claim by the Nakpaa Naa Dawunu family as one that lacks merit and is the third institution to have dismissed the claim by the family.
Over the past 15 years several lives have been lost due to the dispute.
The judgment was read by Justice Gabriel Pwamang, who stated that the late Naa Andani Dasan has been lawfully enskinned as ruler of Bimbilla.
The Nakpaa Naa Dawuni family headed to court hoping to overturn ruling in favor of the Dasana family in 2014. The National House of Chiefs dismissed an appeal against the validity of the late overload of Bimbilla, Naa Andani Dasana. The decision was an affirmation from the Northern Regional House of Chiefs ruling which was in favor of the Dasana family.
On the ruling, the court held that the claim by the Nakpaa Naa Dawuni family that the head of Kingmakers, Juo Naa was the only one clothed with power to determine who rules.
The court held that nominations are done by the family and decided upon by the “Kingmakers” and not only the Head of the “Kingmakers” as has been claimed.
In view of that, the court explained, that the nomination and enskinment of Nakpaa Naa Dawuni was invalid.
The process leading to the nomination and enskinment of the late Naa Andani Dasana was declared as valid and in accordance with law by the Apex court.
The ruling was received with jubilation from youth and people of the area, who have made several appeals to government to see to resolution of the conflict which has affected socio economic activities in the town.
