David Oscar gets candid about decline in quality of Ghanaian Movies

David Oscar, reggae artiste cum actor has spoken to the decline in quality of acting in Ghana’s movie industry.

The creative artiste who has vast experience in standup comedy and acting during an interview on ‘Ghana Yenso Mu’ series revealed that a lot of the on-screen actors the producers and directors use in their projects have little to zero knowledge of performing arts.

“A lot of producers don’t feel it is worth paying professionals like me, Eddie Nartey, Adjetey Annang about GH 1000.00 cedis for a scene or two in a movie. They would rather go for exploitable social media slay queens and pay them GH300.00.

“With this kind of attitude, how can Ghana movie industry progress? This will not happen anywhere. When you go to neighboring Nigeria for instance, there is no way an upcoming actress and veteran actress Patience Ozokwor will act in the same movie and the slay queen will take higher pay than the veteran. That is the structure they have put in place to keep the experienced actors flourishing, but not here in Ghana. As for us, if you want a role, all you need to do is to be heavily endowed in the front and back and be exploitable; and you’ll land a role in a movie,” the sensational reggae artiste lamented.
