Vim Lady slams Ken Ofori-Atta’s economy recovery claim, calling him unwise

TV personality Afia Pokua, popularly known as Vim Lady, has criticized the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, for claiming that Ghana is completely out of its economic woes.

During the presentation of the 2023 Mid-Year Budget Statement to parliament on July 31, 2023, Ofori-Atta asserted that the country is making significant progress in its economic recovery.

In response to the minister’s remarks, Vim Lady expressed her disagreement, stating that Ghana’s economy is, at best, stabilizing, and the hardships are far from over. She believes that the stability observed is mainly due to the country’s management by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) rather than the actions of Ken Ofori-Atta himself.

During her Egyaso Gyaso show on Okay FM, Vim Lady mentioned a recent survey conducted by the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), where nearly 70% of Ghanaians expressed their belief that the economy is heading in the wrong direction.

According to Ofori-Atta, the country has overcome various challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war. He claimed that Ghana is recovering and acknowledged the efforts and sacrifices made by the nation during these tough times.

Vim Lady’s criticism reflects a difference of opinion regarding the state of Ghana’s economy, as she believes that the nation is still facing significant economic challenges. The debate over the country’s economic recovery continues as Ghana prepares for the 2024 general elections.
