Akufo-Addo, Parliament Should Confer Order of Volta On IGP Dampare – Moshake

A former executive of the Tema East constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Ashitey Adjei, has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to specially decorate Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare with special national honours.

In a statement published on Wednesday, Mr. Ashitey Adjei, who is popularly called Moshake, asked that Parliament, before which the IGP appeared on Tuesday in connection to the plot by some officers to remove him from office, also accord the IGP a special ovation.

“When President Barack Obama came to Ghana, his advice that Ghana needs strong institutions and not strong men, was the talk of town with the whole country nodding; however, it is not until this IGP took office that clear evidence of the strengthening of the Ghana police service over personalities became a reality,” Moshake wrote.

According to him, “evidence of the strengthening of the Police service lies in the fact that pro-government sellout officers are not feeling comfortable under this IGP, who was appointed by the same government that they claim he is sabotaging.”

According to Moshake, the IGP’s professionalism, “makes him richly deserving of the highest honour of the land – the order of the Volta.”

Moshake’s call comes in the wake of the IGP’s appearance before Parliament’s committee investigating a plot within the top brass of the police to remove the IGP so that the Police service could be used by partisan officers to rig the 2024 election for the ruling party.

The disgraced conspirators include COP George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Asare and Superintendent Emmanuel Gyebi.

The three had secretly plotted to use Bugri Naabu, the NPP’s former northern regional Chairman, to convince president Akufo-Addo to remove Dampare because according to them, Dampare was not malleable to their desire to use the police service to rig the Assin North by-election.

They are afraid that if Dampare remains IGP, the NPP will lose the 2024 elections because he will not allow the partisan police officers to use the service to rig that election as well.

However, unknown to them, Bugri Naabu had been secretly recording their diabolic plans on a digital tape, which would later leak to the public.

“What is funny about the whole thing is that, this same IGP has been accused by the NDC of doing the bidding of the NPP. From where I sit, what this means is that, Dampare is so non-partisan that both sides of the political divide see him as their nemesis,” Moshake wrote.

He adds, “this being the case, there is no better person to be IGP than Danpare. But beyond this, the man deserves the highest award of the land so as to iconize him as a worthy example for all other IGPs that will come after him,” Moshake wrote.

He also commended Dampare for interdicting all the officers involved in the dirty plot that has now been uncovered.
