Ghana moves up three places in latest FIFA World Rankings

Ghana has been ranked 58th in the latest FIFA Men’s Football world rankings released after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana moved three places up the list of 211 countries that are members of the association.

Ghana’s Black Stars competed in the tournament’s group phase and faced the likes of Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

The Black Stars benefited from beating South Korea 3-2 despite losing 2-3 to Portugal and 0-2 to Uruguay in Group H in Qatar to move up three places on the rankings.

Ghana went into this year’s World Cup as the lowest ranked team (61st) but the Black Stars three game run in Qatar has boosted the country’s point tally.

Despite winning the World Cup, Argentina could not move Brazil off first place in the rankings and had to settle for second with fellow finalist France ranking third.

Belgium and England round up the top five positions with Spain ranked 10th after a disappointing run to the Round of 16 stage in Qatar.

Morocco and Australia were the biggest gainers after excelling at the World Cup; Morocco’s Atlas Lions made history by finishing fourth in Qatar.

Morocco now ranks 11th in the world while Australia ranks 27th.
