God Saw Me Through 37 Years of Banking - Theresa Grant

A retired banker, Madam Theresa Grant, is advising young bankers to serve with diligence and integrity, saying that such service will ultimately attract God’s crown of glory for them.

In an interview on the sidelines of a party that she threw to commemorate her retirement, Madam Grant said such principles were what guided her through 37 years of service as a Banker, retiring with no scandals or issues.

“In banking, we deal with money and because of the sensitivity of money, you need God’s grace to be able to discharge your duties without compromising on anything or opening yourself up for exploitation by nefarious persons,” she said.

According to her, “I went through my service and came out without any issues because I also made godliness my watch word and I will advice all younger generation bankers to do the same,” she added.

The party came off at N’Joy hotel at Sakumono on her birthday, Saturday, 2nd December, 2023.

It was to commemorate 37 years of fruitful service as a banker, serving at the Absa bank, Spintex Branch.

According to Madam Theresa Grant, recent revelations by the Bank of Ghana that some staff of some banks are behaving with compromise in respect of clients’ monies are unfortunate and unacceptable.

According to her, such reports only serve to undermine confidence in the banking sector which does not inure to the benefit of anybody.

“As a banker, you have a fiduciary duty towards your clients, and because you deal with money, this fiduciary duty is even more seriously required of you than the average person with fiduciary responsibilities.

“And so, to be reading in the news that some bank staff have been found to have acted dishonestly with their clients’ money is disheartening,” she said, saying, “it took years of honesty and dedicated service by our predecessors to hand down our banking sector to us.”

She advised young bankers to be guided by the word of God in their service days, trust God for their elevation and work hard.

“Treat your client’s money as if it is your own, and when you do so, you will one day retire with a clean conscience and blessed days in retirement.”

Meanwhile, the former banker has praised the Bank of Ghana for being transparent with the people on issues happening in the banking sector saying this kind of honesty will in the end engender trust in the banking sector irrespective of the isolated cases of misconduct.

Mrs. Theresa Grant, who was also full of praise for her wonderful husband, Mr. Ebenezer Paa Kofi Grant, a retired educationist, for being the pillar behind her, thanked her family, friends and former co-workers for their love.
