‘It’s an inteligent choice’ – Herve Renard commends Ayew on Le Havre move
Former Ghana assistant coach Herve Renard has commended Black Stars captain Andre Ayew for his decision to return to France and continue his playing career with Ligue 1 side Le Havre.
Ayew, who was released by Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2022/23 season, faced a period without a club before making this strategic move.
Renard’s comments were part of Ligue 1’s documentary on African players in the league titled, “Follow your lucky star: Africa and Ligue 1 Uber Eats, the common goal.”
The French coach who won the AFCON with Zambia and Ivory Coast in 2012 and 2015 respectively, previously worked with Ayew as the assistant coach of the Black Stars during the 2008 AFCON, where Ayew also made his debut.
“He has just relaunched himself by coming to the French Ligue 1 for Le Havre,” Renard remarked. “I think it’s a good choice. It’s an intelligent choice,” he said.
Having previously played for Olympique Marseille from 2007 to 2015, Ayew ventured to England, where he signed for Swansea City. Now, with his return to France, Ayew is poised to make an impact in Ligue 1 with Le Havre.
As Ayew prepares for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, he is expected to lead the Black Stars as they continue their mission to end their long-standing trophy drought from 1982 when they won their fourth AFCON title in Libya.
