Obiri Boahen co-chairs NPP local gov’t manifesto subcommittee
Aggrieved former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party Lawyer Obiri Boahen has been named as co-chair of Local Government Subcommittee of the NPP manifesto team.
This comes after Nana Obiri Boahen to leave the political party after he was not given a role in the party’s campaign for the 2024 elections.
An earlier list announced indicating chair persons of the various committees as well broad roles did not include him. Later a manifesto team also ignored him.
However a list of full manifesto members indicated he would co-chair the party’s Local together with Justina Marigold Assan.
Earlier, Obiri Boahen said he has been disrespected and disregarded by the flagbearer of the political party and has decided to advise himself going forward.
Speaking in an audio that has since gone viral, Nana Obiri Boahen indicated that he is pained that after championing for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be elected as flagbearer, he has been relegated.
indicated that he has received calls to start a political party of his own because the NPP takes him for granted.
Obiri Boahen, who sounded hurt, said the party may think that his leaving would not hurt their votes, but he was sure that they would be shocked.
“They have relegated me after all the work I did. They have disregarded me. No one listens to me, so I’m going to form my own political party. I have received calls from people who are shocked that I was not part of the campaign team or even the manifesto team.
“They may think that my moving out will not affect the party, but they will feel the impact during the elections. I hear he may consider those on the manifesto drafting committee as ministers when he gets power. I am really hurt by this neglect,” the legal practitioner said.
