Ghanaian couple based in New York jailed for beating their 5-year-old son to death
A tragic case involving a Ghanaian couple based in New York has reached its conclusion as they are sentenced for the fatal beating of their 5-year-old son.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced the conviction of Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae on March 22, following the death of Owusu’s son, King, nearly three years ago in Brentwood, N.Y.
District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasised the severity of the crime, stating, “This little boy was beaten and suffered for days at the hands of these defendants, one of whom was his own mother, until he unfortunately succumbed to his severe and extensive injuries.”
The investigation revealed that Owusu and Addae subjected the child to beatings using “at least four different instruments” over a three-day period in 2021, leading to his eventual loss of consciousness.
Shockingly, neither of the defendants sought medical assistance or called 911 for the boy.
The tragic events unfolded further on April 1, 2021, when King was left at a family member’s house by Addae and Owusu.
Upon the family member’s return, the child was discovered dead, with authorities determining that he had sustained multiple injuries from head to toe as a result of the beatings.
