Female CEOs summit: Bawumia hints female running mate?
The Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said Ghana’s digitalization renaissance needs the input of women if it must move forward, leading to suspicion he may be considering a woman running mate.
The VP was speaking at the Female CEOs Summit in Accra covered by MyNewsGh.com where he highlighted the “indispensable roles” women play in national development, adding that empowering women will have a significant impact on the development of Ghana.
“Women CEOs are not only driving innovation, but also reshaping the very fabric of business in Ghana and beyond. As we stand at the precipice of a digital renaissance, it is imperative that we harness the collective power and ingenuity of female leaders to propel our nation forward,” he said.
The remarks come at a time the NPP Flagbearer is under increasing pressure to name his running mate with at least three women making the supposed list.
The Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo-Lartey, who is a Ga and a woman, and the Chief of Staff, Fremah Osei-Opare, also from the Ashanti region and a woman as well as Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Minister of Communication have been suggested as options.
If he chooses a woman, Dr. Bawumia will be following in the shoes of opposition candidate John Mahama who chose retired Literature Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang to partner him. It is not known whether the NPP and its presidential candidate will follow suit.
Other persons under consideration for running mate include the Minister for Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh who hails from the Ashanti region and is attracted to the party base as well as Opoku Onyinah, former Chairman of the Church of Pentecost.
