Tema MCE slams NDC and Mahama Over Navy Shooting
The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Hon. Yohane Amarh Ashitey, has said recent desperate moves by former President John Mahama and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to court disaffection for government over the Kpeledzzoo procession shootings shows how unserious they are.
In a social media commentary, the MCE said he had received information that the former President has instructed his party communicators to blame the government for the recent shootings at the Eastern Naval Base.
“This has got to be the clearest evidence that Mr. John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress are truly an unserious bunch that must never be allowed to govern this country again,” the MCE wrote.
According to him, the move to use the naval shootings for propaganda smacks of desperation and betrays the fact that the NDC and Mr. John Mahama have run out of propaganda ideas.
“It also shows you that these people have a rather morbid and primitive sense of politics. Among civilized people, you do not use death to win political points no matter how desperate you are,” Yohane Amarh Ashitey wrote.
The write-up comes in the wake of blame that some persons in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been directing at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the fatal shooting of two people by the Navy in Tema during a procession for the annual Kpeledzoo festival.
The opposition, especially in Tema, has been capitalizing on the incident to claim that the shooting was at the behest of the Jubilee House, with others claiming it marks disrespect that the government has for the culture of the people of Tema.
However, responding, the Tema MCE said such thinking could only come from persons whose minds are occupied with unserious business.
“We have information that Mr. John Mahama wants this issue to be exploited deeply for political capital and in the coming days, the propaganda rhetoric will change gears; what a lame duck behaviour it is!”
Hon. Amarh Ashitey said no such propaganda will wash because everybody knows the shooting was a freak accident that happened as a result of bad temperament on the part of some Navy officers.
“Besides, there is no way that the government is going to sit and allow this bloody incident go unprobed and unpunished; we are going to do just that,” the MCE wrote.
He called out the NDC for allowing itself to be misled by Mr. John Mahama and his desperate desire for power.
“Under normal circumstance, nobody in the NPP would show condescension to the NDC, but they have allowed themselves to be misled by John Mahama and now it is so difficult to take them seriously,” the MCE wrote.
He urged the opposition party to, “abandon John Mahama and return to the ideals of its founding and then perhaps, they may reclaim some of the respect that they used to command in the past.”
