A major part of the success of Ghana’s democracy depends on you – Parliament to Police
The 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, has indicated that a major part of the success of Ghana’s democracy depends on the police force.
He made this known while praising the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, for his innovative and effective leadership of the Ghana Police Service at a ceremony to present the Democracy Cup to the IGP at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
Mr. Asiamah Amoako highlighted the crucial role played by the IGP and the current Police Management Board in maintaining the country’s stability and enhancing its democratic credentials.
He emphasized that the nation’s security and democratic progress are closely tied to the performance and leadership of the Ghana Police Service.
“We believe that a major part of the success of our democracy depends on the Ghana Police Service. We are here to present this democracy cup to you IGP as a symbolic gesture so that as the holder of the peace of this country, we can implore you to continue holding our peace together as you have always done with your administration since you took over.”
Mr. Asiamah Amoako lauded Dr. Dampare’s contributions, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the Police Service in safeguarding the country’s peace and democracy.
“We are grateful for your leadership. The transformation in the police service under you has been inspirational, and we are grateful,” he added.
In response, the IGP assured the parliamentary delegation that he and his team are motivated by the legislative chamber’s recognition of their efforts and will continue to fulfil their duties to protect and uphold the country’s democracy.
Dr. Dampare reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace and security, which he sees as fundamental to the flourishing of Ghana’s democratic institutions.
