5 Ghanaians who have been stabbed to death in the UK in the last two years
The tragic stabbing of 43-year-old Alberta Obinim, who was based in the UK, has sparked concerns about the troubling trend of diaspora Ghanaians losing their lives to stabbing incidents.
In the past 2 years, several Ghanaians residing in the UK have died in separate stabbing incidents.
Although many of the culprits in these incidents have been apprehended, it has not significantly curbed the menace.
A 2019 report by the UK police, posted on adomonline.com, said that about 120 Ghanaians between the ages of 14 and 22 were stabbed to death in London alone in 2018.
This has shed light on the alarming rate of Ghanaian’s involvement in knife violence in the UK, either as victims or offenders.
On the back of this, GhanaWeb provides a breakdown of Ghanaians living in the UK and stabbed to death in the last two years.
1. Alberta Obinim
Alberta passed away after being stabbed in Manchester.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Sunday in Barnard Road, Gorton, and a 22-year-old male has been taken into custody on suspicion of murder, according to the Greater Manchester Police.
Two others, a 17-year-old girl and a 64-year-old man, also sustained life-threatening injuries after suffering “serious stab wounds” at a property on the road, according to the force, a report by Sky News said.
According to authorities, preliminary evidence suggests that the suspect knew Obinim and the other two victims.
To fully understand the facts surrounding the event, police are speaking with witnesses.

The 15-year-old British girl of Ghanaian descent met her untimely death when she was stabbed in Croydon, London, in 20213.
According to reports, Elianne was fatally stabbed in the neck by her friend’s ex-boyfriend while defending her.
Additional reports indicate that Elianne’s friend turned down a proposal from the ex-boyfriend, which left him infuriated.
In his fury, he stabbed the deceased with a knife.
3. Kwabena Osei-Poku
The 19-year-old was reportedly stabbed two times by two Nigerians in an altercation over a large quantity of cannabis in April 2023.

But after they met at the flat, Eke and Lebage-Idubor decided to steal the drugs and warn him (Osei-Poku) not to sell at his corner.
Lebage-Idubor reportedly managed to snatch the drugs from the victim’s hand and walked off the campus with Eke.
The late Osei-Poku then pursued them to get his drug back, but an altercation ensued, which led to Lebaga-Idubor stabbing him twice on the New South Bridge Road.
