Slain UK-based Ghanaian woman’s husband escapes death after family stabbing by son

A 43-year-old Ghanaian woman, Alberta Obinim, and her 64-year-old husband, Elder Joshua, have died after being stabbed by their 22-year-old son.

The attack, which also left their 17-year-old daughter critically injured, occurred late Sunday, August 18, 2024, night in their home on Barnard Road, Gorton.

The incident unfolded around 11:20 p.m., when the son, whose name has not been released, allegedly attacked his family with a knife.

The parents sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, Elder Joshua succumbed to his injuries just hours after his wife Alberta was pronounced dead.

The family’s daughter, who also suffered serious stab wounds, remains in critical condition in the hospital.

The son was apprehended at the scene and is currently in police custody, suspected of murder.

Members of the Ghanaian community confirmed the tragic news.

Obudo and Alex Appiah Mensah, Ghana Union Chairman in the US and New Patriotic Party (NPP) UK Vice Chairman, shared the news in a video posted on social media.

“We took Elder Joshua to the hospital hoping that he would recover, but this morning, Elder Joshua has also died. The child who stabbed his parents both of them have died, and now it is only his sister who is fighting for her life in the hospital. We are deeply saddened,” one of them said.
