Greater Accra Match Commissioners' Association Holds Annual Refresher Course
On August 28, 2024, the Greater Accra Match Commissioners' Association conducted its Annual Refresher Course at the Accra Sports Stadium, ahead of the upcoming league season.
In his opening address, the Chairman of the regional association, Alhaji Ali Musah, emphasized the importance of attentiveness and discipline among participants. He stated, "It is my hope and belief that members will pay rapid attention and comport themselves so that the resource persons will have the highest peace of mind in a very serene atmosphere to be able to deliver their lectures and activities."
Musah further stressed, "The success of this program depends on all of us—how we behave, the questions that we ask, and the needed support that we give to the resource person."
The National Chairman, Mr. Ayamba, urged participants to approach the refresher course with an open mind and actively engage during the verification sessions. "I will plead that we should attend this refresher course with an open mind and express ourselves when the time for verification," he said.
"Understanding the role of the match commissioner is very vital to the Ghana Football Association." He highlighted the importance of working within the "parameters of the law, rules, and regulations" and advised members "not to bet or get involved in activities that may lead to issues that will not represent the image of the association."
Samuel Aboabire, the Greater Accra Football Chairman, advised the match commissioners to ensure they work "in line with the Laws of the Game" and be prepared to commission Division 2 matches.
During the course, match commissioners were trained on how to conduct successful competitions, with sessions covering amendments to the Laws of the Game, integrity, report writing, the role of the modern match commissioner, and how to conduct a successful technical meeting.
The Regional Association will recognize and reward the most outstanding Match Commissioner handsomely at the end of the league season.
