Police hunt down Democracy Hub leader Barker-Vormawor
The Ghana Police Service has arrested several members of the Democracy Hub group for engaging in unlawful activities during a protest at the 37 Roundabout in Accra.
Demonstrators were accused of blocking roads, dismantling police barriers, and obstructing traffic, leading to multiple arrests.
In an official statement, the police revealed that a manhunt is underway for one of the protest leaders, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, who is being pursued for his involvement in what the police termed "acts of lawlessness" during the demonstration.
“We are actively pursuing those involved in these illegal actions to ensure they face justice,” the statement read.
What began as a demonstration addressing the country’s economic crisis quickly shifted focus, transforming into an anti-galamsey (illegal mining) protest.
Viral videos circulating on social media show Mr. Barker-Vormawor taking a key from a police vehicle and throwing it away before fleeing the scene.
In another clip, Mr. Barker-Vormawor is seen toppling police barricades without provocation, further prompting police efforts to apprehend him.
