Bawumia is splitting Northern Ghana - Nana Boakye
The ruling New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate for Tema West in the Greater Accra Region has described Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as a powerful catalyst of change who is changing the fortunes of the NPP.
In an interview with journalists at Sakumonor Estate in Tema, Dennis Amfo-Sefah, who is also a former Chairman of the NPP in the constituency explained that Dr. Bawumia is forever splitting the Northern region between the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The NDC’s dominance in the Northern Region has slipped and it will be clear for all to see when we vote in December,” Nana Boakye said.
According to him, “the assessment on the ground is that Northern Ghana will fall to the NPP in this election, but even speaking conservatively, if the NPP does not win that area of our country, we will at least split it and it is all because of Dr. Bawumia.”
There are a total of five regions in Northern Ghana, namely Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper-West regions.
Historically, the NDC has won convincingly in four of the five regions, but as numerous polls show, the NPP has now made serious inroads into the area.
With the NPP maintaining its dominance of its stronghold regions such as Ashanti and Eastern, and managing to swing key regions such as Central and Greater Accra, it will easily win the 2024 elections if it manages to at least, split the Northern part of Ghana.
This, is what it seems to be on course to achieve as several polls are projecting.
For many, the reason why Dr. Bawumia has much appeal in the Northern Region is simply because he is a prominent northerner.
However, Dennis Amfo-Sefah, who is popularly called Nana Boakye, explains that it is not only nativity that is putting Dr. Bawumia in advantage.
“The Vice President is simply more affable and innovative than former President John Mahama and that is how come he is making disciples of people who used to vote for only NDC.”
According to him, “the abandonment that the NDC is suffering in the Northern region is due to the fact that the party’s candidate is just not attractive, especially in comparison to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.”
Nana Boakye therefore praised the election of Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate for 2024 as strategic and visionary.
“Once Dr. Bawumia splits the Northern region, the NPP will gain a foothold and once that happens it will only be a matter of time before the North becomes another NPP stronghold in Ghana politics,” Nana Boakye added.
