IGP must tighten security in Asante Akyem North Constituency - Concerned youth group cries out

The Concerned Youth Association of Asante Akyem North Constituency are urging Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akufo Dampare to as matter of urgency, beefed up security in the area ahead of the December 7 general elections.
During a press conference in Accra on Friday November 16, 2024, the youth who are not happy about the recent intimidations meted out on independent candidate Ohene Kwame Frimpong said there was the absolute need for the IGP to make sure peace and order will prevail to ensure free and fair elections.
"Asante Akyem North is a Constituency noted for peace. Since 1992, we have not witnessed any bad incident here. All previous elections have been free and fair and peaceful as well.
"But the way tension has started escalating ahead of the upcoming elections, we want the IGP to wake up quickly and intervene.
"We are in full support of Ohene Kwame Frimpong who is going independent. We are pleased with his development works and we want him to continue. But we are calling for maximum protection for him because some people have started incessant attacks on him".
These were the words of Samuel Osei Bonsu, Greater Accra branch chairman of the Concerned Youth of Asante Akyem North.
Three strong candidates are vying for the Member of Parliament (MP):seat in Asante Akyem North Constituency. They are Laywer Andy Appiah Kubi of NPP, Kofi Asamoah of NDC and Ohene Kwame Frimpong, an Independent candidate.
At the press briefing, Chairman Samuel Osei Bonsu hinted that last Tuesday at Brantuo, a suburb of Agogo, the campaign team of Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi attacked Ohene Kwame Frimpong and his people resulting to a police case at Agogo.
Alfred Kwasi Agyei alias Slyzer, an executive member of the Concerned Youth Group also showed evidence of a take recordings which according to him involved Honourable Oti Boateng, DCE of Asante Akyem North and some people planning to rig the upcoming elections for the incumbent NPP candidate.
As law-abiding citizens, the concerned group wants authorities to act swiftly in providing adequate security for all the candidates, adding that peace is paramount in the upcoming elections.
