Prez Mahama and Speaker Bagbin Leaving Shining Footprints for NDC - Greater Accra NDC MPs

A group of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament in the Greater Accra region is praising President John Mahama and Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, for what they say are proud footprints on fourth republican leadership that they are leaving.

In a write-up on social media, by the Member of Parliament for Tema East, Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, President Mahama and the Speaker were hailed as outstanding representatives of the Rawlings tradition in Ghana politics.

“We have seen the mess that the Busia, Danquah and Dombo tradition, personified by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has left behind; and the contrary impeccable leadership that the Rawlings tradition, led by His Excellency President John Mahama, and the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, have brought to leadership,” Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten wrote.

“On behalf of all the MPs in Greater Accra, I express utmost appreciation for these two outstanding leaders for making the NDC’s light shine beautifully for all to see the superior difference that the Rawlings tradition has to offer.”

The statement is coming in the wake of high praise for some of President Mahama’s early acts in office, including, directing the IGP to provide update on investigations into the election-related killings that occurred during the 2020 and 2024 polls.

President Mahama’s order for imported food meant as buffer against drought to be dispatched to schools to feed students under free SHS, his talks with the United States government to re-offer US$190million under the millennium challenge programme after the Akufo-Addo government messed that opportunity up with corruption, have also been applauded.

According to Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, such bold leadership has already began giving Ghanaians a sense of hope.

“We have heard civil society organizations applaud President Mahama’s moves and his appointments, and how even his political opponents have become tongue-tied about his directives. As members of the National Democratic Congress we avail ourselves of the right to take full pride in the outstanding leadership we are seeing.

“Not only that, we note with pleasure that the outstanding accomplishments going on add on to track records that we can exploit in future when we campaign for the mandate of the people,” Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten added.

In respect of the Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the Greater Accra MPs added their voices to high praise that he has received for smoothly steering the eighth parliament which was a hung one.

According to the MPs, the hardworking Speaker, who has since been retained has elevated the speakership to a new standard with his handling of the hung parliament.

“Many applaud the Speaker of Parliament for the manner he stood up to the executive and the judiciary when they tried to encroach on the powers and authority of Parliament. It is our opinion that this has really raised the bar and emblazoned in place a proud history of the leadership of parliament that NDC can command.”

The MPs, while expressing gratitude to the president and the Speaker also urged them to continue to utilize the prevailing goodwill for the government to make more history for themselves and the party.
