Exchequers Begin 2025 Salpholda Hockey League with Dominant Win Over Reformers

The Exchequers got their 2025 Salpholda Hockey League campaign off to a flying start with an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Reformers at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch on Saturday, May 3rd.

Raphael Agyapong opened the scoring in the 9th minute via a penalty corner in the first quarter. Ebenezer Nortey then doubled the lead with a well-taken penalty stroke.

Exchequers continued their impressive form in the third quarter, with Ryan Takyi adding a third through a field goal before Daniel Bempah sealed the win with the fourth goal, also before the end of the quarter.

A defensive lapse by the Exchequers in the final quarter gifted Reformers a penalty stroke, which Samuel Akpene converted to score a consolation goal for the "prisoners."

Exchequers’ Head Coach Richard Attipoe expressed satisfaction with the result but admitted he expected more goals.

“We are the defending champions and the target of every team,” he said. “But we will not give in to their pressure. We will remain focused and fulfill our mission to successfully defend our title.”

Assistant Team Manager Kwesi Amoako was equally confident. “We are defending the title, and we will go unbeaten this year, too. No team will take anything less than the number of goals we recorded today,” he stated.

Asked whether their pre-season tour in South Africa played a role in their performance, he responded: “Yes, the pre-season helped a lot. Our close marking, defense, area balls, and attack all worked well for us.”

When asked if any team poses a threat to their title defense, he calmly replied, “Every team will come hard at us, but we are prepared for them all.”

Exchequers' next game is against Police Men on 31st May 2025.
