Kofi Adams Engages 46 National Sports Federations in Accra

Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has convened an inaugural stakeholder engagement, which brought together representatives from over 46 national sports federations across the country.

The landmark meeting marked Kofi Adams' first formal interaction with key figures in Ghanaian sports since assuming his ministerial role.

The session drew a distinguished assembly, including heads of the various sports federations, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), alongside his deputies, Mr. Bawa Fuseini, the Director of the Winneba Sports College, and the recently elected President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Richard Akpokavie.

A key objective of the gathering was to formally introduce the newly appointed officials who will play pivotal roles within the Ministry, particularly those now leading the National Sports Authority.

The sports minister underscored the significance of this introduction, stating, "Since my appointment in recent months, several other crucial appointments have been made.

"This meeting provides us with the first opportunity to collectively present these individuals to you – the officers through whom your interactions with the Ministry will primarily occur."

He further clarified the operational framework, emphasizing that even well-established entities like the Ghana Football Association (GFA) are expected to coordinate their activities through the NSA, given the Authority's responsibility for managing numerous essential sporting facilities across the nation.

Turning his attention to the current state of sports development in Ghana, Mr. Adams urged all federations to glean valuable insights from the progress witnessed within Ghanaian football.

"The trajectory of Ghana's football ecosystem should serve as an example for all of us," he asserted.

"The prominence football now enjoys was not accidental; it was the result of specific actions. Our task is to identify those actions, learn from them, and apply those successful strategies across all other sports disciplines."

Kofi Adams further highlighted the indispensable roles of collaboration, innovation, and accountability, encouraging federations to align their endeavors with the Ministry’s overarching vision for inclusive sports development.

He reaffirmed the government's unwavering commitment to supporting all sporting disciplines and pledged a close and productive working relationship with the federations to collectively address existing challenges and cultivate new avenues for growth.

The engagement also featured informative presentations on critical aspects of sports governance and athlete welfare.

Federation heads and their representatives received insights into the Sports Act and its associated regulations, protocols for policing sporting events, ambulance services and sports medicine provisions, anti-doping measures, and the crucial topic of athlete welfare both during and after their professional careers.

The meeting culminated in an interactive segment, providing a platform for stakeholders to voice their concerns, share their valuable perspectives, and receive direct feedback from the Minister and his dedicated team.

The open dialogue underscored the Ministry's commitment to fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment for the advancement of all sports in Ghana.
