Hockey: GRA and Reformers Dominate Women’s Fixtures

The 2025 Salpholda Greater Accra Hockey League resumed on June 7 at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Pitch with fixtures from the Women’s and Men’s B divisions.

The opening match between Extinguishers and Army was postponed due to technical challenges, but all other scheduled games went ahead.

In the Men’s B Division, the encounter between Einstein and the University of Ghana ended in a goalless, while Ark Giants were handed a walkover victory after Young Financiers failed to turn up. A competitive match between Tema Manhean and Ark Boys ended 1-1, with Ark Boys’ goalkeeper Stephen Amarteifio emerging as the standout performer, frustrating every attempt from the Tema side.

The day’s spotlight fixtures in the Women’s Division featured Legonknights Ladies taking on Reformers, followed by Police Ladies versus GRA Ladies.

Legonknights and Reformers both came into their matchup seeking their first win of the season after suffering two defeats each. Reformers struck first in under eight minutes through a field goal by Felicia Affum. Legonknights found an equalizer in the second quarter via a field goal by captain Adwoa Amoah, marking the team’s first goal of the season.

However, Reformers kept the pressure and were rewarded in the 47th minute with a decisive goal from captain Benedicta Adjei. After the match, Legonknights' Esther Owusu commented, “the game was hectic. We tried our best, but it felt like we were playing against the umpires. That got into our heads and led to the second goal. But we move on.”  Reformers player Gloria expressed gratitude to God and their supporters for supporting them, we dedicate this win to our management, supporters and the playing body, hard work always help us to achieve our victory today".

In the final match of the day, GRA Ladies handed Police Ladies their first defeat of the season with a 2-0 victory. Mavis Berko and Ernestina Coffie both found the net through penalty corner conversions, securing the maximum three points for GRA.

Police captain Evelyn Fiador reflected on the loss, saying, “we thank God for the strength and an injury-free game. GRA are a solid side, and we tried to hold them rather than match their style. Unfortunately, we conceded twice. It’s a painful defeat, but we’ll correct our mistakes and bounce back.”

GRA’s Gertrude Inkoom praised Police’s resilience: “Police is not a walkover team. They gave us a tough challenge. We’re happy with the win, but we were wasteful up front. We need to improve, or another team might punish us.”

Men's A fixtures will return on 14th June.
