Julius Debrah Endorses Nationwide Drive Under President Mahama
Ghana's Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has thrown his weight behind the bold and inclusive sports development vision of President John Dramani Mahama, pledging unwavering support to unearth, empower and elevate hidden talents from every corner of Ghana.
Speaking with passion and purpose, Mr Debrah underscored the immense potential of sports as a tool for national unity, youth empowerment, and societal transformation, particularly for the many untapped talents in rural and peri-urban communities; “In every forgotten corner of our country, there is a young dream waiting to be discovered,” he added.
“President Mahama’s vision is clear to hunt talent from the grassroots and give it wings to soar. I stand with that vision, not from the sidelines, but at the very heart of it.”
Mr Debrah announced plans for an ambitious Presidential Special Initiative on Sports, a nationwide talent development program that will cover all 275 constituencies.
The initiative, he explained, will not be limited to football but will include all major disciplines, reaffirming Ghana’s heritage as a proud sporting nation.
Reflecting on the electrifying atmosphere of the 2025 President’s Cup, Mr Debrah noted that the match rekindled national pride and reminded Ghanaians of the unifying power of sport.
He congratulated Asante Kotoko for their hard fought victory over rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, while applauding both teams for their display of excellence, patriotism, and sportsmanship; “Kotoko and Hearts reminded us all of the beauty of Ghanaian football—fierce in competition, but united in purpose,” he said.
“Congratulations to the champions, and salute to both clubs for inspiring the next generation.”
Mr Debrah called on stakeholders across all sectors—government, private institutions, the media, and community leaders to embrace this national journey and invest in the next generation of athletes; "let us find the next champion, the next leader, the next story of hope from the streets of our constituencies to the world stage,” he urged.
“Let’s build our nation with the grassroots. They are not just the base of our pyramid they are the foundation and the future of Ghana’s greatness.”
As the country prepares for this transformative initiative, the message from Mr Julius Debrah is loud and clear: Ghana’s future champions are waiting, and their time is now.
