Ghana Gears Up for Glory at CAA U-18 & U-20 Championship

As the countdown ticks to the start of the CAA U-18 and U-20 Athletics Championships in Nigeria, confidence is quietly building within the Ghanaian camp.

The young athletes are mentally psyched, physically ready, and, most importantly, encouraged to enjoy the moment.

“We don’t want to put pressure on these athletes,” said the Ghana team coach ahead of the competition.

“They are young, and this may be their first major competition. The main thing is for them to come, enjoy themselves, and do their best, "head Coach of Emmanuel Appiah Kubi.

While other nations have been seen training intensely, Ghana's approach leans more toward mental preparedness and fostering morale.

“When the morale is high, then you see the enthusiasm of these athletes,” the coach explained.

“Some of them were a little bit shaky, but after our talks, they’ve settled. Now, they are ready.”

Following a crucial technical committee meeting, the coach offered a simplified breakdown for Ghanaian fans.

“It was all about the competition structure—how events will be run, start lists, rules on jumps and races. Everything is now set. The athletes are focused, and we are ready.”

For many of the team members, this marks their first experience on such a stage, but the hope remains unwavering.

“We just pray they put up their best. That’s all we want from them: to go out there and aim for personal bests,” the coach concluded, calling on all Ghanaians to rally behind the team with prayers and support.

Moses Mbila has been named the official team captain for Ghana's delegation for the upcoming 3rd Confederation of African Athletics (CAA)U18/U20 championship in Nigeria.

The championship is scheduled to take place from July 16th to 20th, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta with 44 countries participating.

Captain Mbila will lead a team of ten talented athletes in the competition.

Speaking ahead of the event, Mbila expressed his gratitude to the technical coaches for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading his colleagues.

"I'm honored to be chosen as team captain, and I believe we have a strong team that can deliver and win more laurels," he said.

Mbila's experience as a U-20 100-meter athlete will undoubtedly be an asset to the team.
