Heroic Welcome for Bronze Queens: Ghana Celebrates WAFCON Stars
The Black Queens of Ghana received a heroine’s welcome at the Kotoka International Airport following their remarkable bronze medal feat at the just-ended Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The team’s arrival was met with jubilation as they were welcomed by the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, Chief Director of the Ministry Wilhelmina Asamoah, officials from the Ministry, GFA executives, and passionate fans.

In an heartfelt address, Madam Wilhelmina Asamoah commended the team for their tenacity and determination.
“The country is proud to see the Black Queens make history once again by repeating Ghana’s third-place finish at WAFCON, just as they did in 2016,” she stated. “Your bronze medal is a fitting reward for your hard work, resilience, and dedication throughout the tournament.”
She applauded Head Coach Kim Lars and his technical team for their leadership and tactical brilliance. “Your outstanding leadership has taken the Black Queens to new heights,” she added, pledging government’s continued support to nurture young female football talents across the country.
Deputy Captain Jennifer Cudjoe expressed the team’s appreciation to the nation; “we are grateful to the government, GFA, the technical staff, and the entire country for their support. The crowd here and all the kind words on social media mean a lot to us—it motivates us to strive for more every time we represent the Ghana flag.”
Winger Alice Kusi also shared her excitement; "the crowd here gives us goosebumps—we didn’t expect it. We’re just happy to have brought the bronze medal home.”
As if the celebration couldn't get any better, CAF named its WAFCON Best XI shortly after the Queens' arrival, with Captain Portia Boakye and midfielder Grace Asantewaa proudly earning spots among Africa’s finest.
