NDC Must Shun Mahama To Shame NPP - Moshake
A former executive member of
the Tema East Constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic
Congress (NDC), Stephen Ashitey Adjei has called on the NDC to rid itself of
the influence of former President John Agyekum Kufuor through a smart flush of
his proxy.
In a write-up posted on
social media, Mr. Ashitey Adjei who is popularly called Moshake said that proxy
is none other than former President John Dramani Mahama who is under the remote
control of the NPP’s Kufuor.
“I keep telling the NDC the
truth but it looks like they are only half listening – Kufuor has been remote
controlling things in our party through only one mole, John Mahama who is his
(Kufuor’s) political godson.
To remove that Kufuor
influence, we simply have to get rid of John Mahama from the leadership of our
party and you will see that we will become a winsome party again,” Moshake
wrote.
According to him, getting
rid of Mahama will be the best act of revenge that the NDC would have done
against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) as well, for the NPP’s long,
sneaky control over the NDC through Mahama.
“The NDC should simply shun
John Mahama to shame the NPP,” Moshake wrote.
The call comes as the NDC
readies to elect its presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
And this is not the first
time Moshake has bewailed former President Kufuor, and therefore, the NPP’s
remote influence over the NDC through former President John Mahama.
According to Moshake, Mahama
has been a political godson of sorts to Kufuor and that the ties that bind them
together is through Mahama’s stepmother, Mrs. Joyce Tamakloe.
When Mahma became President
after former President Mills had suddenly died in office in 2012, Kufuor took
advantage of his relationship with him and started advising him to do things
that would inure to the benefit of Kufuor and the NPP rather than the NDC.
Kufuor who was afraid that
he would be prosecuted for numerous acts of corruption while he was president
first advised Mahama to snub the NDC’s party founder, Jerry John Rawlings, who
wanted Kufuor and many of his appointees to be prosecuted.
Even though initially
Kufuor’s only motivation was to avoid jail, soon the man was advising Mahama to
take decisions that made the NDC government unpopular.
“It was Kufuor who advised
Mahama to stop paying the allowances of teacher and nursing trainees,” Moshake
has often said.
According to him it was
Kufuor who also advised Mahama to sideline NDC thoroughbreds such as Dr. Tony
Aidoo and appoint non-party people such as Nayong Billiejoe when Mahama was
president.
“Kufuor and the NPP have had
too much influence over the NDC for far too long. It’s high time the NDC
shunned Mahama to stop Kufuor’s influence once and for all.”
The Chairman of the
Tema East constituency branch of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nene
Agbadiagba Ofoe-Teyechu IV, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is
counting on a major mistake that the opposition National Democratic Congress
(NDC) will commit as part of its strategy to break the eight.
That mistake is the
NDC electing former President John Mahama again as its flagbearer for the 2024
presidential elections.
“As a party, we have
lost some shine because of the current economic situation in the country even
though it is not the fault of government that the external factors such as the
COVID 19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine happened. Even so, no matter who
becomes our presidential candidate for 2024, we will win and break the eight.
“It will even be
easier if the NDC returns John Mahama because we have beaten Mahama twice
before and have just the right campaign messages to beat him again,” the Tema
East NPP Chairman said in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of a
wedding ceremony at Tema Manhean on saturday.
consequently, he
said, “we are fervently hoping that the NDC will bring John Mahama again so
that we can easily break the eight.”
The statement of the
NPP Constituency Chairman comes as the NDC is believed to be preparing its
presidential and parliamentary primaries in May.
Mr. Mahama has
already lost two elections at the hands of the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo and on
both occasions, he lost by hundreds of thousands of votes. In 2016, Mahama was
the first ever sitting president to be defeated in an election. He lost that
election by almost 1million votes.
“Then in 2020, he
lost again by over 500,000 votes. NPP whipped Mahama like a small boy, I think
that as a duty to the party, all members should pray for the NDC to elect
Mahama again as flagbearer so that we can easily beat him again like we did in
2016,” Nene Agbadiagba said.
Last year,
international market research company, Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU,
forecast that the NDC will very likely win the 2024 elections however, to make
sure double sure, the party must discard its leader in the 2024 presidential
election that is Mr. Johnn Mahama.
However, Mr. Mahama
has refused to be dissuaded from contesting again, strategically keeping mute
over whether he will contest or not.
