Christian Atsu’s foot is injured – Hatayaspor official reveals

Ghana forward Christian Atsu is receiving treatment at a hospital after he was rescued from the rubble of the earthquake that struck Turkey on Monday.

The earthquake resulted in the deaths of at least 4,800 people, and widespread damage, particularly in Hatay, which was one of the areas closest to the epicentre.

According to Hatayspor’s Vice-President, Mustafa Özat, Atsu was pulled from the rubble with injuries.

Unfortunately, Hatayspor’s sporting director, Taner Savut, is still unaccounted for and is believed to be in the collapsed building. The rescue effort continues as the nation comes together to provide aid and support to those affected by the disaster.

“Christian Atsu was removed with injuries. Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble,” Özat told local media.

“Christian Atsu is currently in the hospital, his treatment continues. His foot is injured, but I do not know the detailed information at the moment. We are very happy that he is alive. We are also praying for our teacher Taner Savut. I hope we get good news.”, he added.

Atsu scored a 97th minute free-kick as Hatayspor beat Kasımpaşa S.K. on Sunday.

A significant aftershock with a magnitude of 7.5 struck Turkey’s south hours after the initial quake, causing it to be felt again in Syria and Iraqi Kurdistan.
