Don’t treat Ursula with kid gloves – IMANI to MPs

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, an advocacy group, has called on Members of Parliament to probe Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu on the controversial $89 million Kelni GVG contract.

According to Mr. Cudjoe, relevant questions should be asked when she appears before parliament to answer questions concerning the deal on Tuesday.

“Tuesday when you meet in parliament demand this particular question to be answered: what are we getting in return, don’t let them bamboozle you by saying to you that, they are saving $1.1 million of the previous deal, which was bad according to them,” he said on Citi FM’s on Saturday.

Franklin Cudjoe called for the cancellation of the $89 million contract between Ghana and a Haitian firm, GVG Kelni deal by government.

His utterances are based on the fact that Subah Infosolutions and Afriwave Telcom Ltd are companies who are already undertaking functions the new firm is expected to undertake.

A petition was sent by IMANI Africa to petition the Vice President to cancel the contract for the design, development and implementation of a common platform for traffic monitoring, revenue assurance and mobile money monitoring.

However, George Andah slammed IMANI’s analysis of the contract, adding that “they are doing the bidding of their paymasters”.

The Communications Minister, Ursula Owusu has subsequently been summoned to appear in Parliament next week after IMANI Africa accused the ministry of signing a deal that is a replica the State’s agreements with Subah Infosolutions and Afriwave Telcom Ltd in 2010 and 2016 respectively.
