The National Democratic Congress has accused the Electoral Commission of delaying collation of resuits at its regional level and onward transmission to the headquarters to give room for rigging by the New Patriotic Party.
According to the NDC, its agents who were called to observe the collation at the national headquarters since 8:00pm yesterday have not received a single result from the regional Electoral Commission.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday morning December 8, 2020 the National Communication Officer of the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi alleged that the EC is deliberately delaying the results at their national headquarters to give room to the NPP to carry out with their rigging agenda.
The inability of the EC to start collating results as at 11:00am of December 8, 2020 he further said defeats the assurance by the EC to announce the presidential results within 24 hours after close of polls on December 7, 2020.
The rigging,he explained is demonstrated by the NPP in calling for recount at collation centres when it should be at the polling stations, stressing that recounts are not allowed at collation centres but at polling centers.
Additionally, he revealed that the NPP and their elements are bringing different collation sheets otherwise known as pink sheets to overturn the already counted ballots and signed sheets.
The NDC, he noted is aware of the movement by the NPP to send teams to the Ashanti region to tighten efforts at rigging which is the strong hold of the NPP.The Director of Elections of the NDC, Mr. Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah who was also at the press conference and made a contribution, said there have not been any election won by a political party that didn’t win the Greater Accra, Central, Bono and Western regions.
As it stands however, the NDC he noted has won all of these regions and leading with Parliamentary seats with a total of 140 seats as against NPP’s 134.
For the first time since returning to multiparty democracy, the NDC said it has performed so well in the Ashanti region with over 30% as compared to an expected 26% in the region for this year.
He called on the supporters of the party to remain cheerful but to continue to keep an eye on the ball by being vigilant.
The deputy national General Secretary of the party, Mr. Peter Boamah Otorkunor who took time to also address the gathering, outlined the violent and intimidating tactics by the NPP to deepen their attempt to rig.
He claimed that the agents of the NDC are being injured at the various collation centres by forces of the NPP thugs.
According to him, suspicious armed military men are firing gunshots indiscriminately and hitting innocents agents who are struggling for their lives.
He particularly mentioned the like of a bodyguard of the Director of Operations at the presidency, Mr Lord Commey who was arrested for shooting at police officers at a check points at Ablekuma Central and gave his name as ‘Kola’ .
